DJ and music stylist, Kamala has professionally provided sounds for over a decade, with experience playing to many of New York City's best venues, diverse audiences, underground parties and special events (see list). Combined with a variety of music projects and production endeavors, Kamala lives up to her reputation as a gifted and prolific music selector.

A Native New Yorker of Afro-Latin descent and Sanskrit name lends to her cultural ambiguity, global perspective and universal sound. Heavily influenced by music at a young age and endowed with a rich musical legacy as a daughter of Jazz tenor and soprano saxophonist Carter Jefferson, Kamala also credits her multi-cultural Chelsea-Manhattan upbringing and years of downtown night-clubbing for giving her a flavor-full edge in her music direction.

While Kamala is best known for her deep soulful house music sets, her musical ear and music programming covers many genres from Nu-Soul, Global Lounge, Broken Beat, Nu-Jazz, Trip Hop, Hip Hop, Dub, Afrobeat, Dance & Soul classics, and beyond.

Kamala has been a featured DJ in the PS1 Warm Up DJ Series, Speigel world events at Pier 17, the Winter Music Conference in SouthBeach and dance parties presented by The Melting Pot NYC,  and Giant Step. Kamala has also played events with many great and respected DJs and music producers within the New York dance and house music arenas, most notably DJ legends like Jellybean Benitez, Louie Vega, Nicky Siano and original Paradise Garage DJs David Depino and Joey Llanos.

Kamala DJs NYCs best dance club venues including, Cielo, Santos Party House, Pacha, Sullivan Room, SOBs, APT, Joe's Pub and subMercer.  Kamala has also been featured at various boutique hotels including Soho House, and Hotel on Rivington,  and provided music for fashion labels like Issey Miyaki, Diesel, Giorgio Armani, Hugo Boss and Epperson to name a few. Notable private events include 2008 Tribeca Film Festival Premiere event and Re-opening of The Museum of Modern Art Gala.

Kamala conjures moods with her sets and her rhythmic selections not only get people dancing but weave a story. "I know I had a great set when people feel like I took them on a journey".
